I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again—I’m not really a “blogger.” But this project felt too good not to share. It’s extra special because it’s not just any makeover—it’s my kids’ room at their grandma’s house.
For years, this space has been “the kids’ room,” full of toys and childhood energy. But as my kids have gotten older, my mom started talking about updating it—something a little more grown-up, a little more versatile, a room that could still be theirs but also double as a guest space when needed.
When she went on vacation earlier this year, I decided it was the perfect time to work a little design magic and surprise her with a transformation. And now that the dust has settled (literally and figuratively), I can share the whole story—start to finish. Spoiler alert: she loved it. 🖤

From Kids’ Room to Boho Retreat
The project started simply enough: a fresh coat of paint. I landed on a deep, grounding green for the feature wall, knowing it would instantly shift the room’s vibe into something more timeless and cozy.
But the biggest transformation wasn’t the paint—it was the molding. I added trim to the walls to create depth, texture, and architectural detail. This part of the project required a lot of planning, careful measuring, and precise cuts (measure twice, cut once, always!). It’s one of those upgrades that doesn’t just decorate a wall—it completely redefines the room.
👉 Want to see the process in action? I shared it over on my Instagram. Here is Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 + real life behind the scenes 🤡😈
Weather, Delays, and Design Perseverance
Like most projects, this one wasn’t without its hiccups. Snowstorms rolled in, schedules got derailed, and I caught a round of seasonal sickness that slowed me way down. But one thing I’ve learned (from both art and remodeling work) is that good design always takes patience.
Even when the timeline stretched, I kept layering in the details—light fixtures, bedding, and eventually, the finishing touches that pulled the whole space together.

The Final Touches
By the time the last lamp was placed and the beds were made, the room had fully shifted. It wasn’t just a “kids’ room” anymore—it was a boho retreat. Cozy, flexible, and full of charm.
The deep green wall with the new molding became the star of the space, while soft textiles and eclectic decor layered in warmth and personality.
One of the things I love most about this project is that it reflects the way design evolves with life. Kids grow. Needs change. Spaces should change with them. This room honors the memories of its past while opening up possibilities for the future.
And yes—my mom was surprised, delighted, and totally in love with the final result. (Phew. 😅)

Closing Thoughts
This makeover reminded me why I love doing what I do. Rooms aren’t just walls and furniture—they’re reflections of who we are, where we’ve been, and who we’re becoming.
Whether it’s a kids’ room that needs to grow up a little, a guest room that needs more personality, or a space in your own home that’s ready for a fresh start, I’d love to help you bring it to life.
Because design isn’t just about making things pretty—it’s about creating spaces that feel like you.

DIY Takeaways: Adding Molding Like a Pro
Thinking of adding molding to your own walls? Here are a few quick lessons I picked up along the way:
✨ Measure twice, cut once. Molding is unforgiving if your cuts are off. Precision is everything.
✨ Plan your spacing. Lay out the design on the wall with painter’s tape first to make sure proportions look right.
✨ Invest in a good saw. Clean cuts make installation so much smoother.
✨ Caulk is your best friend. Don’t skip it — it makes all the difference in the final polished look.
